Iran’s President Congratulates Indonesia on National Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message to his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo congratulated the people and government of Indonesia on the Southeast Asian country’s National Day.

“I am sure that in line with the definite and futuristic views and political will of the two countries’ leaders and by adopting new strategies, we will witness new steps in the development of the ties,” the president said.

He highlighted the Iranian and Indonesian nations’ historical and friendly relations as well as the two countries’ abundant capacities and hoped for the deepening of mutual ties between Tehran and Jakarta.

Rouhani further prayed for success and health for Widodo and progress and glory for the Indonesian people.

The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence was read on August 17, 1945. The declaration marked the start of the diplomatic and armed resistance of the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting against the forces of the Netherlands and pro-Dutch civilians, until the latter officially acknowledged Indonesia's independence in 1949.
