IRGC Foils Suicide Attack on Border Post in Southeast Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force’s troops killed two suicide attackers in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan before the terrorists could storm a border post with their explosive-laden vehicle.
The IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base said in a statement that its servicemen at a border post in the Saravan region successfully fought back “members of terrorist groups and armed outlaws” on Sunday night, when the assailants in a vehicle laden with explosives attacked the post.
Two terrorists were killed in the incident and two members of Basij forces serving in the military post were wounded, the statement added.
One of the assailants killed himself by exploding his suicide vest after failing to approach the post, it added.
In January, the IRGC forces in the province of Sistan and Balouchestan seized a consignment of explosives and suicide belts smuggled into the country for terrorist attacks.
Since a couple of years ago, the IRGC has been tasked with ensuring security of southeastern border areas in cooperation with local residents.
Located in southeast of Iran, Sistan and Balouchestan borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, and has a long coastline by the Sea of Oman.
