Hamas Vows Continued Anti-Israeli Action over US Embassy Move
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Following a Friday car attack by a Palestinian on Israeli soldiers in the city of Jenin, a senior member of Hamas said anti-Israeli resistance and operations across Palestine will continue to dissuade the US from moving its embassy to the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem).
In an interview with Tasnim, Ismail Rizwan described the Jenin attack as a “heroic operation” and a natural reaction to the Israeli crimes against people of Palestine and to the US plan to move its embassy to al-Quds, which the Trump administration has recognized as the capital of Israel.
A Palestinian driver ran over Israeli soldiers in Jenin on Friday afternoon, killing two and wounding two others. The driver has been reportedly injured and hospitalized for treatment.
The senior Hamas member then underlined that such operations will continue until the US would regret its decision about Quds and reverse its embassy relocation plan.
Describing the Palestinian attacks on Israeli forces as being in defense of the cause of Palestine, Rizwan warned the US against carrying out the “very costly” plan to open an embassy in Quds.
In February, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the US is planning to open its embassy in Quds in May.
US President Donald Trump in December 2017 defied global warnings and said Washington formally recognized Quds as the capital of Israel and would begin the process of moving its embassy to the occupied city, breaking with decades of American policy.
His decision infuriated the Palestinians, who declared that Washington could no longer play a role as lead mediator in the Middle East peace process. It also sparked outrage across the Muslim world and even Washington’s Arab allies.
The United Nations General Assembly on December 21 overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution that calls on the US to withdraw its controversial recognition of Quds as the Israeli capital.
