Speaker Calls for Closer Iran-Vietnam Trade Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Iran and Vietnam’s business people should be informed of the economic capacities of the two countries as part of efforts to boost bilateral trade.
Speaking to reporters after an economic meeting between Iranian and Vietnamese delegations in Hanoi, Larijani said during the session, business people from the two sides raised some of their problems and the Vietnamese officials pledged to resolve them.
The parliament speaker further emphasized that there are some opportunities that should be introduced to merchants in the two countries.
He went on to say that there are grounds for investment in the areas of electricity, gas, petrochemicals and transportation, and Iranian businessmen should be active in this regard.
Heading a parliamentary delegation, Larijani left Tehran for a tour of Vietnam and Sri Lanka on Sunday at the invitation of his counterparts in the two countries.
The official visits aim to deepen parliamentary cooperation between Iran and the two Southeast Asian nations.
In a meeting in Russia back in October 2017, the parliament speakers of Iran and Vietnam called for closer economic and industrial cooperation between the two countries, with the Vietnamese side urging efforts to raise the annual bilateral trade to $2 billion.
In March 2016, the then Vietnamese president Truong Tan Sang paid an official visit to Iran. Following his comprehensive talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, it was decided that the value of bilateral trade be increased to $2 billion in a five-year period.
