Egypt Likely to Attend Iranian President-Elect’s Swearing-in Ceremony
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The head of Egypt’s interests section in Tehran expressed his country’s willingness to expand ties with Iran, and announced Cairo's preparedness to send a delegation to the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s next president.
Pointing to Iran’s invitation for Egyptian officials, Khalid al-Said Ibrahim Amari told reporters on Monday that Egypt will try to send a delegation to the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s president-elect Hassan Rouhani.
Amari added that the new Egyptian government will try to boost bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic.
He also said that Iran and Egypt are two “big regional powers” and described the two countries’ bilateral ties as influential for the region.
The Egyptian diplomat’s remarks come after Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi said that heads of state and senior officials from all around the world have been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the president-elect.
President-elect Hassan Rouhani will take oath before the parliament as Iran’s seventh president on August 4th, a day after endorsement of his presidency by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Hassan Rouhani emerged victorious in the presidential election of June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout.
The voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent and Rouhani gained 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots counted.
