Commander Lauds High Security during Recent Elections in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi praised the Iranian law enforcement and security bodies' performance in ensuring the country's security during elections held on June 14.

In a message, Firouzabadi expressed his gratitude to the Iranian interior minister, his deputies and other personnel for their successful handling of the voting and their measures to hold the elections in a peaceful and calm environment.

On June 14, the Islamic Republic of Iran saw the 11th presidential vote as well as the 4th City and Village Councils elections.

Nearly 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to vote in the polls.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.

Hassan Rouhani emerged victorious in the presidential election of June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout.

The voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent and Rouhani gained 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots counted.
