200 Foreign, Local Reporters to Cover Iran's Political Events this Week
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A large number of local and foreign reporters will cover the major political events in Iran in the next few days, including the International Quds Day rallies, endorsement of Iran's president-elect and his swearing-in ceremony, a Iranian official announced today.
“50 foreign reporters representing 28 media from 16 countries will come to Iran to cover the (International) Quds Day, as well as the president-elect’s endorsement (of presidency by Supreme Leader) and swearing-in ceremony,” Head of Foreign Media of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Nasser Haqiqat told Tasnim on Tuesday.
The Iranian official announced that 100 local reporters from 66 different media will cover the three major events.
President-elect Hassan Rouhani will take the oath in parliament as Iran’s seventh president on August 4, a day after the endorsement of his presidency by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Haqiqat also said that 50 other foreign reporters will accompany the foreign delegations invited to attend Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony, adding that they will not cover the International Quds Day rallies.
He further noted that a total of 150 reporters will cover the Quds Day rallies on August 2.
The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the Zionism as well as Israel's control of Beit al-Muqaddas.
The day was first suggested by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (PBUH), in August 1979.
Imam Khomeini declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day, and called for Muslims’ massive rallies to mark the occasion.
It is now commemorated in several countries in the world, the Islamic states in particular, with enthusiastic protests against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, particularly East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
