Kuwaiti Expert Hails Quds Day as Imam Khomeini’s Legacy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Kuwaiti political expert emphasized the necessity of unity among Muslim nations in order to support Palestine, and admired the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, for his wise initiative to designate the International Quds Day.

“Imam Khomeini placed the Zionist regime (of Israel) and its allies at the top of the list of Islam’s enemies, and promulgated the notion and idea of resistance and Islamic awakening among the Islamic Ummah by this worthwhile move,” Mohammad Habib Almohaimeed told Tasnim on Tuesday.

Almohaimeed, a member of the political bureau of Kuwait’s Islamist Movement for National Unity, also underscored the impact of the International Quds Day on all aspects of the resistance in Muslim countries, adding, “Since the beginning of its naming, the International Quds Day has had direct and undeniable effects on international realities.”

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to  Zionism as well as Israel's control of  al-Aqsa mosque.

The day was first suggested by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in August 1979.

Imam Khomeini declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day, and called on Muslims and freedom-loving people all over the world to mark the occasion with massive rallies.
