Iran Wins WABA Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Jordan 85-75 and won the 16th WABA (West Asia Basketball Association) Championship on Thursday.

Dirk Bauermann’s men had already defeated Lebanon 81-75, Syria 93-63 and Iraq 79-50 respectively.

“I am so happy because we earned four victories in the tournament.  We played in a high level in the competition; however I believe that we have a long way ahead of us,” Iran coach Dirk Bauermann said.

The WABA Championship served as a qualifier for the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge. The top three teams advanced to the event which will be held in Iran from September 9–18, 2016.

Iran is preparing for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT), slated for July 4-9.
