Iranian Cleric Hammers Saudis for Genocide in Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top Iranian cleric lashed out at the Saudi regime for ignoring its responsibility to host the Hajj pilgrims, and slaughtering people in Yemen instead.

“Rather than hosting the Kaaba pilgrims and making preparations for it, Saudi Arabia is involved in genocide in Yemen and provides the Takfiri terrorists in the region with weapons,” Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani said in an address to a gathering of worshippers in Tehran.

The Saudi kingdom sees no limit to shedding the blood of Muslims, he deplored.

The comments came after a recent UN report said Saudi-led coalition was responsible for 60 percent of child deaths and injuries in Yemen last year, killing 510 and wounding 667, and half the attacks on schools and hospitals.

More than 9,400 people have been killed in Yemen and at least 16,000 others injured since March 2015, when Saudi Arabia launched a military campaign against the Arab country.
