Iran Decries Denial of Flight Permission for al-Bashir’s Plane
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi deplored a neighboring country’s move to deny the Sudanese President Umar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir’s plane the permission to cross its airspace.
“We were informed by our embassy in Sudan about the problem and deeply regret the issue…Sudanese president returned to Sudan because of denial of flight permission by a neighboring country,” Araqchi told Tasnim on Sunday.
Sudanese President al-Bashir was travelling to Tehran in order to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday.
After the development, Sudan’s Presidential Press Secretary Emad Sayed Ahmed announced that Saudi Arabia had refused to give permission for the plane carrying al-Bashir to enter its airspace.
Araqchi further noted that Iran will investigate details of the issue.
Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony was held in the country’s parliament on Sunday.
The ceremony saw dozens of senior leaders and officials coming from different countries.
Hassan Rouhani emerged victorious in the presidential election on June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout.
