President Rouhani meets Mahathir Mohamad

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - President Hassan Rouhani and former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad in a meeting here in Tehran called for the further expansion of relations between the two sides.

In his Sunday night meeting with the former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, President Rouhani voiced Iran’s determination to expand ties with the Muslim and friendly country of Malaysia.

The new Iranian president referred to the expanding bilateral relations between Iran and Malaysia, and asked for the ever-more expansion of comprehensive cooperation.

Mahathir Mohamad, too, congratulated Rouhani on his presidency and expressed the hope that the two countries’ relations will further expand in the future in line with the two nations’ interests.

He also described the two countries’ economic relations as “good and expanding.”

Delegations from over 50 countries attended Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony. Among the foreign dignitaries present there were 10 presidents, six vice-presidents, two prime ministers, eight parliament speakers as well as several prominent officials and former officials.
