Rafsanjani: Arrogant Powers Seeking to Spread Terrorism in Muslim States

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani warned against the growing threats posed by terrorist groups in the Islamic countries, and stated that arrogant powers are seeking to expand terrorism in Muslim states.

“The peril of spread of terrorist groups in the Islamic countries is serious and the colonialist policy-makers have shady plot for waging negative propaganda campaign against Muslims,” Rafsanjani said in a Monday meeting with Algeria’s President of the Senate Abdelkader Bensalah in Tehran.

The Iranian official further pointed to various fields for expansion of relations between Iran and Algeria, and praised the African country for its historical battle against colonialism.

The Algerian official, for his part, referred to Iran as one of the most important countries in the Middle East and the Islamic world, and emphasized the need for vigilance against extremism.

Abdelkader Bensalah was among dozens of other foreign dignitaries who traveled to Iran in order to attend Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday.

The new Iranian president took the oath of office before the parliament as the country’s seventh president, after Saturday’s endorsement of his presidency by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
