Sri Lankan Firm Keen to Resume LPG Imports from Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The managing director of LAUGFS Holdings, a Sri Lankan diversified business conglomerate, said the company plans to resume importing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran.
"Besides resuming our purchases, we are seeking to boost our (LPG) imports from Iran," W.K.H. Wegapitiya said as cited by Shana.
He further hailed the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions, saying, "We hope Iran will set the ground for enhancing large LPG volumes by facilitating international banking transactions."
Wegapitiya made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting between Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh and his Sri Lankan counterpart Chandima Weerakkody on Sunday in Tehran.
At the meeting, Weerakkody announced Colombo’s readiness to restart importing Iran's crude.
Describing Iran and Sri Lanka as close and old-age friends, he expressed the hope that the two nations will develop their mutual cooperation in the oil sector.
The sanctions were lifted after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached an agreement on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16.
