President Rouhani Felicitates Basketball Team's Victory in Asia
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's new President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Iranian nation on national basketball team’s victory at the final match in the 2013 Philippines FIBA Asian Basketball Championship.
“The victory of Iran’s basketball players at the Asian championship brought joy and glory to the Iranian nation,” President Rouhani said in his message on Sunday evening.
The Iranian president further thanked Iranian basketball players, their coaches and the country's Basketball Federation for their performance.
Earlier, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and President Rouhani’s nominee for Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry Masoud Soltanifar, too, in separate messages congratulated the national victory.
On Sunday evening, Iran defeated the Philippines 85-71 and claimed Asian Men's Basketball Championship's title.
Iran beat host team the Philippines 85-71 at their home in Manila in presence of some 15,000 fans, the president of the country, first vice-president and a number of their national heroes.
With the victory, the Iranian national basketball team became the Asian champion and completed its glorious record at the Philippines 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.
