Oman Eying Closer Cooperation with Iran's Southern Port

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A group of Omani investors paid a visit to Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas during which they asked expansion of cooperation between the city and the Omani ports.

During this visit, the role of Bandar Abbas Port in the country’s trade and its strategic position was elaborated for the delegation.

Also, investment opportunities in various fields were introduced to the delegation and port projects currently underway in Bandar Abbas were explained by the pertaining authorities, a report by Dredging Today said.

With 36 berths, Bandar Abbas port is the major and most modern container port of Iran. Geographically it is situated in the north-south transport corridor.

Acknowledging the role of Bandar Abbas as one of the important ports of the region, Omani delegation expressed hope that ground would be further prepared for forging greater cooperation between Bandar Abbas and Omani ports.

Earlier, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, had said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is keen to strengthen the relations between Tehran and Muscat.

In a telephone conversation with Oman’s King Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed last week, President Rouhani emphasized the need for official talks between Tehran and Muscat in order to expand bilateral cooperation between the two Muslim countries.

The Omani king, for his part, expressed eagerness to visit Iran’s chief executive to discuss the issues of mutual interest.
