Iran’s Defense Minister- Designate Cautions Enemies against Hostile Moves

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s defense policy rests on effective deterrence, and as such any belligerent move by the enemies will put their own security at risk, Iranian new President Hassan Rouhani’s proposed nominee for the minister of defense said Wednesday.

Defending his plans to lead the Defense Ministry in the parliament on Wednesday, Hossein Dehqan described his major initiative as deterring foreign threats by consolidating the country’s military capabilities.

Dehqani stated that the deterrence approach “will persuade the enemy that any hostile measure would proportionally result in threats against its own interests and security.”

“We have always stood to foreign invasion with the maximum power, and have made the enemy disappointed,” he pointed out.

The Iranian lawmakers on Wednesday morning began their third day of debates on President Rouhani’s proposed ministers.

On Tuesday, the Iranian lawmakers held debates on qualifications of six ministers.

Rouhani had unveiled the list of his proposed cabinet members during his swearing-in ceremony on August 4.
