Larijani Stresses "National Dialogue" to End Egyptian Crisis
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is very concerned about the recent developments in Egypt and has called on all parties in the country to find a clear strategy out of the crisis through dialogue and cooperation, Iranian parliament speaker said
“Egyptian erudites, scientists, and politicians should cooperate together and Egyptians themselves should have a clear strategy to end this conflict,” Ali Larijani said in a Sunday interview with al-Alam news channel here in Tehran.
He further criticized some foreign countries he said were taking sides with certain conflicting sides in Egypt as “unacceptable”, and called on Egyptians to “accept that running the country is possible through coordination between different sides.”
Many Iranian officials have so far expressed concern about the ongoing crisis in Egypt.
In relevant remarks on August 9, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had expressed concern about the tense conditions in Egypt, and said, “The possibility of outbreak of civil war in this country (Egypt) has increased, and this is a tragedy.”
Emphasizing the need for democracy in the North African country, the Leader stated that crisis in Egypt should be resolved by the Egyptians alone, and also dismissed any foreign interference in the Muslim country.
On Wednesday at least 638 people died when the security forces cleared two protest camps in Cairo, a move that drew international condemnation.
Also on Friday, at least 173 people were killed in clashes between supporters of deposed president Mohamed Mursi and the security forces.
