Commander: Iran Developing New Advanced Fighter Jet

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A senior commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force said manufacturing of a new advanced fighter jet is now underway in the country, and added that the IRIAF is also developing several types of air-launched missiles.

“We are now manufacturing an advanced fighter jet in cooperation with Aviation Industries Organization of (Iran’s) Defense Ministry,” Lieutenant Commander of the IRIAF for Coordination Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh said on Wednesday.

He also added that the new military aircraft will remove the country’s need for purchasing foreign fighter jets, particularly for training purposes.

The Iranian commander further announced that the Air Force is working on development of modern air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles.

A number of the newly developed missiles, Nasirzadeh said, have been tested successfully and some others will be finalized this year.

In February, Iran unveiled a new indigenous fighter jet, dubbed Qaher-313 (Conqueror-313), which is said to be similar to the US-built F/A-18.

The new single-seat aircraft has been manufactured based on state-of-the-art technologies and modern defense achievements.
