Official: Kidnapped Iranian Staffer in Yemen in Healthy Conditions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran announced that its information show that the country's kidnapped embassy staffer in Yemen, Nour Ahmad Nikbakht, is alive and healthy.

"We have information indicating that Mr. Nikbakht is healthy," Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian told Tasnim on Wednesday evening.

The Foreign Ministry will dispatch a "consular committee" to Yemen to pursue the fate of the kidnapped Iranian staffer in the next few days, Abdollahian stated.

The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs also appreciated the efforts made by Sana’a on the matter.

Earlier, former Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on August 11 that Yemen had issued visas for members of an Iranian delegation for pursuing the fate of the Iranian Embassy staffer.

“This Iranian delegation will soon head to Yemen to confer and investigate the status of our country’s kidnapped diplomat in Sana’a,” Salehi told Tasnim at the time.

On July 21, a group of armed men kidnapped Iranian Embassy staff member Nour Ahmad Nikbakht in Yemeni capital of Sana'a, and took him to an unknown location.
