President Rouhani Congratulates Spanish PM on Re-Election
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday congratulated Mariano Rajoy on his re-election as Spain’s Prime Minister.
In a message to Rajoy, President Rouhani cited the history of bilateral ties and highlighted the existing potentials in different political, economic and cultural fields, expressing the hope that cooperation between Iran and Spain would expand in all the fields of mutual interest during Rajoy’s new term in office.
He also wished health and success for the Spanish prime minister and progress and happiness for his nation.
Mariano Rajoy was sworn in for a second term as Spain’s prime minister on October 31, after winning a confidence vote in parliament to end a period of political deadlock in the European country.
The country had been without a fully empowered government since elections last December and again in June produced fragmented parliaments, with party leaders unable to agree on a majority coalition. Rajoy, whose Popular Party finished first in both elections but lost the majority it had won in 2011, remained as a caretaker, unable to initiate legislation.
