No Obstacles to Closer Ties with China: Iranian FM

BEIJING (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated the importance Tehran attaches to relations with Beijing, saying the Islamic Republic “sees no obstacles” in bolstering ties with China.

The Islamic Republic sees no obstacles to the promotion of relations with China and is ready to boost the ties in all areas, Zarif said during a joint press conference with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing on Monday, according to Tasnim dispatches.

“The relations between the two countries entered a strategic phase after the trip to Tehran by Chinese President Xi Jinping (in January),” he said.

Iran’s top diplomat added that there is “very good” cooperation between the two governments as well as the private sectors of both countries in all fields, which offers a bright prospect for the expansion of the relations.

Zarif further emphasized that Tehran and Beijing share common stances over regional and international developments.

The foreign minister is in China on the second leg of his Asian tour that took him earlier to India.

There, he held talks with senior Indian officials and also attended the 6th conference of the ‘Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process’.

He is slated to pay a visit to Japan after high-profile meetings in China.
