Official: Bushehr N. Power Plant Enters Operational Phase

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian energy official said the country’s Bushehr nuclear power plant has entered the operational phase, adding that the plant will enter its industrial activities in the near future.

Head of Bushehr nuclear power plant Hossein Derakhshandeh announced on Thursday that the plant has entered the operational phase for generation of electricity.

He also added that Iranian technicians will take control of the power generation facility within the next two months, when the plant begins its industrial operation.

In a separate development on August 13, Iran’s former Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi has stated that Russia will officially hand over Bushehr nuclear power plant to Iran in the near future.

“The plant has completed its test phases and will begin operation within the upcoming weeks and (then) will be officially handed over to Iran,” Araqchi said at the time.

He had also reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program is purely peaceful, as the country needs nuclear power for electricity generation and medicine.

The United States and the European Union have imposed illegal unilateral sanctions against Iran over the false claim that Iran's nuclear energy program might include a military component.

Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that numerous inspections of its nuclear sites by the IAEA have invariably failed to find any diversion towards military purposes.
