Iran Raps US Obstruction of JCPOA Process, Deplores Persistent Banking Woes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi denounced the US for hampering the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying Tehran has still problems in the banking and financial sector one year after coming into force of the nuclear deal.

Since the JCPOA took effect a year ago, there have been many cases of lack of US commitment, as well as delays and hostile policies towards Iran, Araqchi said at a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, marking the first anniversary of implementation of the JCPOA, a nuclear agreement with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

“We have never had a positive view of the US. They did everything for obstructionism,” he deplored.

Araqchi further confirmed that anti-Iran sanctions in the banking and financial sectors are still in place, but added that none of those financial problems relate to the JCPOA.

Overall, Araqchi said, the JCPOA has moved forward well over the past year, however, “the US and European countries did not do anything, but even impeded the process (of JCPOA implementation).”

Iran and the six countries on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA. The accord took effect in January 2016 and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation has been hampered mainly due to US policies.
