Switzerland Diplomatic Delegation in Tehran for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Head of the Middle East department in the Swiss ministry of foreign affairs is in Tehran to hold talks with Iranian officials on the expansion of bilateral ties.

Wolfgang Amadeus Bruelhart, heading a delegation of Swiss diplomats, arrived in Iran’s capital of Tehran on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as regional developments.

On the first day of his stay in Tehran, the visiting Swiss official had separate meetings with two Iranian diplomats from the ministry of foreign affairs.

The two sides expreseed hope that Iran and Switzerland can take advantage of the new potentials and opportunities to expand their political, economic, cultural and parliamentary cooperation.

On the latest regional developments, the two sides rejected the use of force and emphasized on diplomacy as the practical solution to establish peace and security across the region.

Switzerland has had a consulate in Tehran since 1919 which was raised to the status of embassy in 1936 and also represents the interests of some countries including the US in the Iranian capital Tehran.

The Swiss embassy in Tehran has been serving as Washington's interest section since the US cut its diplomatic ties with Iran in 1980.
