Spokesman Reiterates Iran's Emphasis on Principle of Good Neighborliness

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman on Saturday dismissed as “baseless” an earlier remarks by the UAE officials about Iran's interference in neighboring Arab countries’ internal affairs, saying Tehran respects the principles of good neighborliness.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always placed emphasis on the principles of dialogue, respect for sovereignty and good neighborliness in the region and expressed its willingness for establishing rational, proportionate, and balanced relations with all its neighboring states,” Bahram Qassemi said.

He then expressed the hope that the regional countries would do their best to establish such relations after a correct understanding of the coming international atmosphere.

The first step to boost atmosphere of cooperation and interaction would be a change in raising accusations and in leveling unconstructive claims about undeniable and effective role that Iran is playing in the region, Qassemi said.

The Emirati official had better express his opinions with more realism and avoid repeating hackneyed and baseless claims, which have no result but the exacerbation of divergence among regional countries, Qassemi added.

In a post on his Twitter account, Anwar Gargash, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, claimed that Iran’s interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries had caused instability in the region.
