Speaker: Iran, Turkmenistan Share Identical Views on Regional Issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani expressed the country’s readiness for broader cooperation with Turkmenistan in various fields, adding that Tehran and Ashgabat share a common view on peace-making procedures across the region.

“Iran and Turkmenistan’s views about bringing peace to the region and providing calm are so close together,” Larijani said at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Friday.

Heading a high-ranking politico-parliamentary delegation, Larijani has traveled to Turkmen capital city of Ashgabat for an official three-day visit aimed at expanding bilateral ties between Iran and Turkmenistan.

“Turkmen president’s positive and peace-loving view is admirable,” the Iranian official pointed out.

He further added that Tehran is ready to provide Ashgabat with technical assistance in order to implement infrastructural projects, including construction of roads, oil refineries and power plants.

Berdimuhamedow, for his part, lauded the increasing cooperation between the two neighboring countries, and expressed the hope for further enhancement of bilateral ties during Iran's new administration.

In a relevant development on August 5, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani had also praised the close ties between Iran and Turkmenistan, and emphasized the need for further enhancement of bilateral relations between the two nations.

In a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart at the time, President Rouhani pointed to amicable relations between Tehran and Ashgabat, saying, “Bilateral relations in economic, political and cultural fields will further develop in the future.”
