Rouhani: Interaction with EU Bodies, Iran's Foreign Policy Priority

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's president said on Monday promoting ties with the European Parliament and other institutions of the bloc, and dispelling misunderstandings are among the top objectives of the country's foreign policy.

“Creation of a new atmosphere for interaction and common understanding on the basis of mutual respect is among the primary and serious purposes in the new administration’s foreign policy,” President Hassan Rouhani said in a message to President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, on Monday.

The Iranian chief executive further described the European Parliament as “one of the most effective European bodies,” and added that his administration is after boosting Iran’s relations with all EU institutions and clearing up possible "misunderstandings" with the EU.

In relevant remarks on August 12, Rouhani had reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to pursue the policy of "constructive interaction" with other countries as a basis for Tehran's foreign policy, adding that he will try to "create new opportunities for the country, remove threats and pursue policy of détente and mutual trust".

He has also announced that his administration will pursue the policy of moderation in dealing with foreign countries and at the same time will safeguard Iranian national security.
