Leader Criticizes West’s Claims about Advocating Human Rights
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei strongly dismissed claims of western governments that they advocate human rights, saying their track record reveals they have no compunction about massacring innocent people.
“Westerners feel no remorse for the Hiroshima massacre, for killing millions of humans in the first and second world wars, and for killing the innocent people of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq; and in the future, they will have no compunction about killing people wherever their interests require,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated in a gathering of Iranian Friday Prayer leaders, here in Tehran on Monday.
The Leader also emphasized the need to be powerful against the West, as he said, despite its humanitarian claims and facade, it (the West) is ready to carry out any atrocity to secure its interests.
“It is necessary to be mighty against the western world, because it has shown that it has no pity for anyone ... and killing millions of people does not pick its conscience,” the Leader pointed out.
The Leader's remarks come as the US and its few allies are pushing for military action against Syria, apparently in response to a chemical weapons attack in a Damascus suburb on August 21. The number of those the US claims were killed in that attack, 1429, pales into insignificance in comparison to hundreds of thousands of people who perished in the US nuclear attacks and its later attacks in which it used chemical agents. And the suffering and consequences of those attacks continue to this date.
The atomic bombings of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan were conducted by the United States during the final stages of World War II in 1945. Within the first two to four months of the bombings, the acute effects killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki.
And according to Wesley Messamore, who published his list of US chemical weapons use on www.policymic.com, the US military dumped 20 million gallons of chemicals on Vientnam for nearly a decade of war.
“Vietnam estimates that as a result of the decade-long chemical attack, 400,000 people were killed or maimed, 500,000 babies have been born with birth defects, and 2 million have suffered from cancer or other illnesses,” he wrote.
Messamore also mentions CIA assistance to former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein who gassed his own people as well as Iranian troops and civilians in the late 1980s.
