Iranian Expatriates in Russia Can Vote in 4 Cities: Embassy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Embassy in Moscow announced that Iranian expatriates living in Russia, who are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential elections, can cast their ballots in four cities of the Russian Federation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the embassy expounded on the arrangements it has made for Iranian nationals residing in Russia to participate in the 12th presidential election due to be held this Friday.

The embassy has set up four polling stations in the Russian capital of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Astrakhan, and Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, the statement added.

In the previous edition of the Iranian presidential elections in 2013, three polling stations had been set up for Iranian expatriates in Russia to vote.

Earlier, Iran’s Interior Ministry authorities said expatriates in 104 countries would be able to vote in the country’s 12th presidential election at the same time with the polls at home.

There are currently five candidates running for presidency, after one of them withdrew from the race on Monday.

During the previous polls in June 2013, President Hassan Rouhani garnered 50.7 percent of a total of over 36 million votes.

The number of eligible voters in this round is said to stand at more than 56,400,000.
