IRGC to Unveil Combat Drones Next Week

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian commander said the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) will unveil a home-made combat drone during the Sacred Defense Week (starts on September 22).

Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh announced that IRGC’s domestically-made combat drone will be unveiled in the next few days, on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week, which commemorates eight years of defense against the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988).

"In the field of drones we have had great achievements and are among the top countries in the world ... so far we only had reconnaissance and patrol drones, but now we have combat ones in the arsenal of our drones," said Hajizadeh in a live television program on Monday night.

Earlier in August, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan had also announced that the country has equipped army units with a new type of advanced suicide drone which is capable of destroying both air and ground targets.

“These drones have the capability to conduct suicide attacks and can hit specified targets, either air or ground targets, such as tanks and installations. They act like a mobile bomb and hit targets,” he said at the time.

The Iranian commander also noted that the drones are capable of taking online pictures and videos and conducting other missions, including aerial reconnaissance.
