Iran’s Oil Output Hits Post-JCPOA Record: Spokesperson

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s daily production of crude oil surpassed 3.9 million barrels last month, rising to a record high following the removal of sanctions under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), spokesman for the Iranian administration announced Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at a weekly press conference in Tehran, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said Iran’s oil output in Khordad –the third month in the Iranian calendar (May-June)- exceeded 3,901,000 barrels per day for the first time after termination of anti-Iran sanctions.

Iran’s Oil Ministry had already made the necessary preparations to boost crude production capacity to the pre-sanctions levels.

The sanctions were lifted after coming into force in January 2016 of the JCPOA, a nuclear accord between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), helping Iran increase its oil exports.

Elsewhere in the press conference, Nobakht pointed to diplomatic activities on the 1988 downing of an Iranian passenger plane over the Persian Gulf by a US warship’s missile, saying the US has paid sums of money after Iran’s claim of compensation.

On July 3, 1988, Iran Air Flight 655 was on a routine flight from Iran's southern city of Bandar Abbas to Dubai when the US Navy's missile cruiser USS Vincennes shot it down, killing all 290 passengers onboard, including 66 children and crewmembers.
