Turkish Parliament Speaker Arrives in Tehran for Official Visit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek, heading a delegation, started a 2-day official visit to Iran to meet high-ranking Iranian officials.

The Turkish speaker’s visit comes at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani.

Upon his arrival at Tehran, Cicek was welcomed by Iranian Vice-Speaker Mohammad Reza Bahonar.

The Turkish legislator will meet with Larijani later today. Tomorrow he will hold several meetings with top officials, including President Hassan Rouhani.

The first senior level contact from Turkey with Rouhani was held in early August when Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu travelled to Tehran in order to represent President Abdullah Gul at new administration’s inauguration ceremony.

In addition to Rouhani, Cicek is also expected to hold separate talks with First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
