Spain’s Top Senator Hails JCPOA Impacts on Trade Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - President of the Spanish Senate Pio Garcia-Escudero lauded the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers, for facilitating economic ties between Tehran and Madrid.

The JCPOA has opened up perfect opportunities for increased trade and mercantile exchanges between Iran and Spain and for bigger investment partnerships, Garcia-Escudero said in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Sunday.

The positive results of the JCPOA are pretty obvious in the economic interaction between Spain and Iran, the Spanish senator added.

Touching on the age-old relations between the two countries, the visiting official voiced Spain’s willingness to broaden ties with Iran in all fields.

For his part, Zarif called for the removal of obstacles to trade interaction between the two countries.

He also noted that a host of advantages in Iran, such as low cost energy, geographical position, skilled workforce and security, have made the country a perfect option for foreign investment.

There has been growing enthusiasm for closer ties with Iran since the January 2016 implementation of the JCPOA, which terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Tehran.

In May, Spain’s Ambassador to Iran Eduardo Lopez Busquets said his country plans to open a support center in Tehran in an attempt to provide guarantees for Spanish firms active in the Islamic Republic’s petrochemical sector.
