Haniyeh to Visit Iran Soon: Representative

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh will visit Iran in the near future, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement's representative in Lebanon Ali Barakah said on Monday.

Speaking to Donia Al-Watan Newspaper, Barakah said that the relations between Hamas and Iran has returned to the level of six years ago.

He said the two sides agreed to set their future ties and cooperation in line with the two nations’ interests.

The Hamas delegation’s visit to Iran will take place upon an invitation of Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani for Haniyah, the envoy said.

“Iran sees continuation of Resistance in Palestine as a vital issue and Hamas, too, knows that relations with Iran would strengthen the Palestinian Resistance,” he said, adding that Iran is the sole country that supplies the Palestinian resistance with needed money and arms.

A high profile Hamas delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday to attend the President Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony. Iranian and Hamas officials had also a meeting prior to the event in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Iran and Hamas relations soured six years ago because of their different stance towards regional developments including the Syria crisis.
