TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced his decision on Tuesday to keep Valiollah Seif as the governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).

Speaking at the parliament on Tuesday, President Rouhani said Seif would remain as the head of the Central Bank of Iran.

Although the top Iranian banker can officially stay in office for one more year as part of his 5-year tenure, the president is invested with the power to pick a new choice.

Seif is an active, energetic and experienced person, President Rouhani said in the parliamentary speech.

Seif is the 18th head of the CBI.

Established in 1960, the Central Bank of Iran is tasked with formulating and implementing the country’s monetary and financial policies with due regard to the general economic policy of the country.
