Iran’s Zarif, EU’s Mogherini Discuss JCPOA Implementation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini held a meeting on the implementation process of the JCPOA.

Zarif and Mogherini held talks on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The two sides discussed the latest developments about the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

During the meeting, Mogherini reiterated the EU’s continued support for the international agreement.

It came after US President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that the nuclear agreement is an “embarrassment” to the United States.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
