Iranian Officials Discuss Arrangements for Arbaeen Pilgrimage
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – With only three weeks remaining before this year’s Arbaeen, Head of Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Hamid Mohammadi and the country’s ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, met in Baghdad to make arrangements for a safe and easy trip to Iraq by Iranian pilgrims.
In the meeting, held at Iran’s Embassy in Baghdad, Mohammadi said a top priority for his organization is to improve the quality of the services provided to Iranian pilgrims flocking to Iraq to perform religious rites during Arbaeen.
For his part, Masjedi voiced the Iranian Embassy’s full preparedness to facilitate the trips to Iraq.
On Sunday, director of an Iranian headquarters handling the Arbaeen pilgrimage said all Iranian pilgrims intending to travel to Iraq for Arbaeen rituals will have to obtain individual visas beforehand.
On August 13, the interior ministers of Iran and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation in handling the religious rituals for Arbaeen.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shiites flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites on Arbaeen.
