New York Shooting Suspect's Body Found in Hudson River
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The body of a suspected workplace shooter was pulled from the Hudson River, bringing closure to a search that disrupted several New York communities for days after a Long Island shooting that left one man dead and a second in critical condition.
A recreational boater discovered Sang Ho Kim floating near the shoreline just south of the Bear Mountain Bridge about 8:30 a.m. on Monday, said Putnam County (N.Y.) Sheriff Donald B. Smith.
The find was reported to authorities, who removed the body from the scene, later confirming it was Kim, the suspected shooter in an attack in Nassau County, N.Y., last week.
Kim, 63, of Queens, N.Y., is believed to have shot the two with a handgun Wednesday at a lighting fixture company near the Roosevelt Field mall in East Garden City, N.Y., on Long Island. Police said Kim had had a business dispute with executives there.
"There was some disgruntlement between him and the company he was attacking," Nassau County Police Chief Steven Skrynecki said last week, USA Today reported.
An employee, Zachariah Yong Jae Shin, 25, was killed, and the company's chief executive, John Choi, was wounded.
The manhunt for Kim spread to Putnam County, after his white Honda Pilot SUV was discovered by police Wednesday night in Sandy Beach at Little Stony Point Park along the Hudson River north of Cold Spring, N.Y. The manhunt closed schools as well as a stretch of road Thursday as more than 100 police officers searched the surrounding area on foot, in helicopters, aboard boats and on ATVs.
"The tragic violence in East Garden City and the search for Mr. Kim in our local community caused fear and apprehension for many folks," Smith said in a statement. "Today's events have, at least, allowed us to turn the page on what was a scary chapter for local residents."
