Parliament Speaker Appreciates President’s UN Stances

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani praised President Hassan Rouhani’s strong logic and wise stances at 68 UN annual General Assembly in the first meeting between Parliament and government on Tuesday evening.

This comes after 230 lawmakers issued a communiqué on Tuesday to pull their weight behind the stances Rouhani announced at the UN.

“We, members of Iran's parliament, appreciate the resolute and wise stands adopted by the esteemed President Hassan Rouhani at the UN, as they were in conformity with the values and ideals emphasized by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, and the Supreme Leader, and presented a picture of a mighty, peace-loving Iran that favors dialogue and interactions…,” read part of the communiqué.

President Hassan Rouhani declared that "peace is within reach" in a hotly anticipated speech at the United Nations in which he offered immediate negotiations aimed at removing any "reasonable concerns" over Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

president Rouhani told the UN General Assembly that he was prepared to engage in "time-bound and results-oriented" talks with the West ro resolve the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.

He also called for stricter controls on nuclear weapons as part of a global effort to eventually rid the world of them.

"No nation should possess nuclear weapons; since there are no right hands for these wrong weapons," he said, speaking on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement at the General Assembly.
