FM: Atmosphere Changing in Iran’s Favor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's foreign minister in his Facebook page on Thursday once again evaluated Iranian delegation’s New York visit as "good", and underlined that the atmosphere on the international scene has changed in Iran’s favor.

“In general, it was a good trip. The atmosphere around the globe has changed in favor of Iran, and the change is, of course, due to the epical presence of you (the Iranian nation) in the (presidential) election,” Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote in his facebook page today.

Referring to his meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York, Zarif quoted Ban as saying that the atmosphere of UN General Assembly had never been so positive throughout the 7 years of his post as the UN chief.

Zarif said, Mr. Ban also attributed the existence of that positive atmosphere this year partly to the effective presence of Iran's President Hassan Rouhani in the UN session.

Addressing the 68th session of the UN General Assembly in New York last week, President Rouhani encouraged the entire countries, international organizations, and civil foundations to organize new efforts aimed at leading the world towards peace and security.

He underlined that instead of the incompetent coalition for war in different parts of the world we need to concentrate on coalition for sustainable peace, throughout the world.

“Today the Islamic Republic of Iran is calling on you and on the entire international community to take a step forward; inviting the mankind against aggression and extremism…” said President Rouhani.

Later, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his US counterpart Barack Obama talked over the phone as the Iranian official was on his way to leave New York City after the United Nations General Assembly.

Rouhani said on October 2 that the US officials had sent several messages to the Iranian delegation about holding a direct meeting days before his arrival in New York.

“American officials kept insisting that a meeting take place between the two presidents of Iran and the US. They sent messages in this regard several days before the trip to New York,” Rouhani told reporters on the sidelines of the cabinet’s weekly session here in Tehran on Wednesday.
