Qatar Determined to Broaden Ties with Iran: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The outgoing Qatari ambassador to Tehran underscored his country’s dogged determination to strengthen relations with the Islamic Republic in all fields.

In a Monday meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the outgoing Qatari envoy to Tehran, Ibrahim Abdulrahman al Mighaseib, expressed gratitude to Iranian officials for their close cooperation with the Qatari embassy during his tenure.

He also emphasized the Qatari top officials’ resolve to further improve relations with Iran in all fields.

Pointing to the high capacity for cooperation between the two neighboring countries, the Qatari diplomat also expressed the hope that expansion of Tehran-Doha ties, particularly in economic and trade arenas, would grow in future.

Zarif, for his part, hoped for implementation of agreements already reached between Tehran and Doha, and said, “As two neighboring Muslim countries, Iran and Qatar have great commonalties and many grounds for cooperation in various political and economic fields.”

Zarif had a meeting with his Qatari counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 26, during which the two top diplomats exchanged views on the latest regional developments, including the deadly crisis in Syria, underlining the significance of stability, security, and progress in the region.

Qatar along with saudi Arabia and Turkey has been a major supporter of Syrian rebels who are fighting to overthrow the Syrian President bashar al-Assad for two and a half years.
