Iran Committed to Maintaining Friendly Ties with North Korea

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is eager to continue its friendly ties with North Korea and interested in expanding the level of its cooperation with Pyongyang in all areas, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri said on Wednesday.

In a meeting with visiting North Korean Labor Minister Jong Yong Su, vice-president Jahangiri expressed Tehran's commitment to keep its amicable ties with North Korea and to further improve the existing level of cooperation between the two sides.

Jahangiri expressed hope that North Korea can overcome its existing problems and find itself on the path of development, saying growth and economic progress require peace and stability, a need shared by North Korea's neighbors.

Pyongyang should try to find a way out of its problems through dialogue and diplomacy to lay the ground for establishment of stability and security in the country, added Iran's vice-president.

The Korean labor minister, too, for his part evaluated his visit of Iran as fruitful and a step in line with further expansion of friendly relations.

“My visit is made on the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between our countries,” said Jong Yong Su.

Leading a delegation, the North Korean labor minister arrived in Tehran on Friday and has held meetings with some Iranian officials.

The delegation was invited to visit Iran by the Iranian head of Iran-North Korea friendship group Lotfollah Forouzandeh.
