Body of Iranian Sailor Missing in Caspian Found

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The body of one of the two Iranian Navy officers who went missing after a destroyer crash at the Caspian port city of Bandar-e-Anzali has been found, the Army said Wednesday.

The Army said in a statement that the body of the martyr, Lieutenant Bijan Zare’, has been found after days of search in the sea.

It also said the search operation will continue to find the body of the other victim, Ensign Amir Basereh, a commando of the Navy.

The two other officers on board Damavand destroyer went missing in the Caspian Sea after the military vessel had an accident on January 10 and suffered serious damages.

The Army spokesperson has cited adverse weather conditions and a sudden deterioration of storm as the factor behind the crash.

The 100-meter-long destroyer that weighs more than 1300 tons officially joined the Navy’s northern fleet in the Caspian Sea in March 2015.
