Iranian Diplomat in Russia to Participate in Trilateral Talks on Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari started his trip to Russia on Friday to take part in trilateral talks between Tehran, Moscow, and Ankara about the peace process in Syria.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Jaberi Ansari left Tehran for Russia early on Friday to attend a meeting about the Syria peace process in the Kazakh city of Astana, initiated by the three countries.

Later on Friday, the Iranian diplomat plans to meet the Russian president's special envoy to the Middle East, Mikhail Bogdanov, and hold talks about the latest developments in the region and cooperation between the two countries to help resolve regional crises.

Jaberi Ansari will also partake in the trilateral talks between Iran, Russia, Turkey in Sochi on Saturday about the upcoming congress for Syrian-Syrian talks.

On November 19, Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists were flushed out of their last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.

On November 22, the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey held talks on the Arab country’s crisis in Sochi, coming up with a plan for a national congress for peace in Syria.

The congress is expected to be held in Sochi on January 29 and 30.
