Iran Pursuing Mutual Cooperation with Regional Countries for Peace: Velayati
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Akbar Velayati, an international adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, underlined Iran’s policy of pursuing relations with all regional countries to ensure peace and stability and its opposition to foreign meddling in the region.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled policy in the West Asia and North Africa region, or as you call it the Middle East, is mutual cooperation with all of the countries in the region in order to establish sustainable stability, security and peace,” Velayati said in a meeting on Wednesday with Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister, who is in Tehran at the head of a European delegation.
Iran’s relations with neighboring and regional states have always been based on interaction and collaborations, he added.
Velayati also stressed that Tehran is opposed to any foreign interference in the region.
He further referred to the country’s support for Iraq and Syria in their fight against terrorism and said that it was provided at the request of the two countries’ legitimate governments.
Had Iran and the resistance front not sided with the regional nations and resisted against terrorism, the Deash (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group would have captured Baghdad and Damascus, he went on to say.
On November 19, Daesh terrorists were flushed out of their last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.
Daesh militants made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing large areas of Syria.
But the timely support by Iran helped Syria and Iraq fight off the Takfiri terrorist group.
