Navy to Build Special Warship for Training Missions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Monday his forces are constructing a warship, dubbed 'Persian Gulf', for training navy personnel.

“Loqman is the name of a project for the construction of a training vessel called Persian Gulf which will be used to provide practical training for new personnel who join the navy,” Sayyari said at a press conference on the sidelines of a military conference.

“The Persian Gulf training vessel would boost the capabilities of the navy in the field of training and expertise, and since such a warship does not exist in the region, it will be a great leap forward in enhancing the capabilitlities of the navy."

According to the navy commander, the construction of the Persian Gulf training warship, which reflects the country's need to be present in the high seas, has started.

Rear Admiral Sayyari also said that a renovated warship of the Iranian Navy, called Lavan, too, would join the fleet on November 28, the Iranian Navy Day.

He said that Lavan warship has very advanced technological specifications.
