Iran, G5+1 End Third Session of Talks, Top Negotiators to Meet Later
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Representatives of Iran and the group of six major world powers wrapped up their third session of negotiations on Wednesday evening, to be followed by a wrap-up session, separate press conferences and a joint communique.
As two days of nuclear talks are coming to a close today, many are waiting for the dramatic finale attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to get a sense of relief and breakthrough.
Top diplomats from Iran and the G5+1, also known as P5+1, which includes the five permanent members of the UN Security Council --Russia, China, the US, Britain and France-- as well as Germany started this fresh round of two-day negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program in Switzerland’s Geneva on Tuesday morning.
So far three sessions have been held, and the last one will be attended by Zarif, who is also Iran's top nuclear negotiator, and Catherine Ashton who oversees diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the six world powers.
In the meantime, the participating sides in the ongoing talks are going to issue a joint communiqué at the end of their negotiations on Wednesday, a document many hope will open the way to end the nuclear impasse between the two sides.
