Iran Men’s Squash Team Makes History in Asian Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s men’s team advanced to the 19th Asian Squash Team Championship semi-final underway in Cheongju, South Korea.

The Iranian team is seeded in Pool D along with Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.

Iran defeated Thailand 3-0 and beat Chinese Taipei 2-1 but lost to Malaysia 2-1 and advanced to the next round as the top second team.

Iran beat Japan 2-1 in the quarter-final and booked a place in the semis for the first time.

The Iranian team will play the winner of Hong Kong and South Korea on Saturday.

The Asian Team Championship is the international squash competition played between teams representing different nations organized by the Asian Squash Federation.

Countries enter teams of three or four players to represent them in the championship. In each round of the competition, teams face each other in a best-of-three singles matches contest. Each competition is held once every two years.
