Israel Seeking to Hit Palestinians’ Tent City Protest by Bombing Gaza: Hamas

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A spokesman for the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, decried the Israeli regime’s air strikes on the Gaza Strip on Saturday and said the attacks are aimed at ruining Palestinians’ six-week-long tent city protest, which is slated to start on Friday.

In a post on his Facebook account on Sunday, Fawzi Barhoum said Israel’s objective behind the air strikes against Gaza and targeting Hamas’ positions is to intimidate Palestinians and frustrate their plans for mass protests demanding the recognition of “Right of Return” for millions of Palestinian refugees and an end to the Israeli siege on Gaza.

He added that the Zionist regime’s moves indicate that it is facing a real crisis caused by the insistence of the Palestinian nation on their rights.

The Hamas spokesman went on to stress that the Israeli attempts to break the Palestinians’ resolve would be futile.

The Israeli regime struck a Hamas target in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday night after four Palestinians allegedly crossed the border illegally, local reports said.

The Israeli military hit a compound in Rafah.

The attack came as thousands of tents are planned to be set up near the Gaza border with the occupied territories for a six-week protest, officials said Thursday.

Gaza families are to set up the tents for the protests running from March 30 to May 15, organizers said.

Protesters plan to call for the granting of a right of return for millions of “Palestinian refugees” across the Middle East.

The families could stay in the tents for prolonged periods, with youth and community activities planned, according to the organizers.
